Bio-based composite for ecosystem restoration.

This project investigated and tested the material characteristics of a 100% biodegradable, waste-based composite material and aimed to identify potential use cases for the novel material.

The result is a nature-inclusive establishment structure for non-invasive aquatic and coastal ecosystem restoration. Creating support structures that can help young aquatic species grow can increase the success rate of nature restoration efforts. Furthermore, making them from materials that safely biodegrade over time means that there is no need to remove the base structure once it becomes obsolete which could otherwise disturb the environment that was just newly restored.
